I’ve seen a lot of “If You Liked This, Then Try This” posts, and I always enjoy reading them. So, I decided to put my own spin on it! Sometimes I go into books expecting one thing, and getting the complete opposite. Or sometimes I am just disappointed in the books I read. If you’ve ever been looking for a book to replace one you were disappointed in, then this is the post for you!

Are you looking for a book that doesn’t use a character’s sexuality as a plot twist? Are you looking for a book that doesn’t have absolutely horrid mental health rep? Well, then look no further than Sawkill Girls! You’ll still get the thrills of a fantastic thriller, along with some amazing fantastic creeps. It does have a fantasy edge, so if you’re looking for a school based thriller, I recommend checking out How We Fall Apart by Katie Zhao and Ace Of Spades by Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé when they come out later this year!

Disappointed in how Game Of Thrones ended? Not into all the incest of the first book and season? Well, then check out Descendant Of The Crane by Joan He! It is pitched as a Chinese-inspired Game Of Thrones, but in my opinion, it is so much better. It’s amazingly written and full of mind blowing twists and political intrigue.

Since we do not have a need for Republican/Democrat romances, read Today Tonight Tomorrow instead! It’s an academic rivals, enemies-to-lovers, 24 hour, scavenger hunt through Seattle, all around amazing book!

The Witcher is a fantasy show (I know, not a book), but if it wasn’t for you and you wanted something without all the violent ableism, then check out Sisters Of Sword And Song. This was such a FANTASTIC YA fantasy and it honestly gave me YA The Witcher vibes. There’s a whole lot of sword fighting, an amazing sister relationship, and the sweetest and kindest love interest.

Were you hoping The Cruel Prince would lean into the morally gray characterization more than it did? Do you want a book with a villainous main character? Then look no further than Beyond The Ruby Veil! I flew through this book because it’s just so, so good. It’s bloody and the main character is truly horrible!
Well, that’s it for my recommendations this time! I had a blast putting this post together, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I put together a part two. If there’s any books you were disappointed in and want recommendations for, let me know and I’ll try my best to give you a recommendation!
