Hello and welcome to my first character interview! I never quite knew what I thought about character interviews, since writing the responses always seemed so daunting to me; I would want to be sure it was exactly right. Though, Christine, who knows these characters better than anyone else, was kind enough to answer these questions herself! And who am I interviewing? None other than May Hawthorne, sister of Justin Hawthorne and reader of The Deck Of Omens.

The teenagers of Four Paths must save their home. Though the Beast is seemingly subdued for now, a new threat looms in Four Paths: a corruption seeping from the Gray into the forest. Now, let’s move on to the interview. I had so much fun coming up with these questions and the questions truly shine with May’s personality.

It’s no secret that you and Justin have a complicated relationship. Despite being family, would you take the option to be an only child?

No. Justin and I don’t always get along, but he’s my brother. That’s not something I would want to change.

You sense of style is very pink and very organized. Is there a specific reason for that? Why do you lean towards that type of fashion?

There’s a lot going on in my life that I can’t control, but I can control how I dress. And I’ve always loved pink–it has so much variance to it. There’s a shade for every way I could feel, and it looks great on me. So I might as well feel good about how I look, right?

What is your favorite part of reading the deck? Why do you love it so much?

Reading the cards feels like coming home. It’s what I’m supposed to be doing. It’s literally what I was meant for. And it’s a really important job. Which means I’m important, too.

If you were a normal girl, living a normal life, what’s a hobby you’d like to try out?

I like to think I’m pretty normal. But if I had more free time, I think I’d work on my Instagram more. There’s so much inspiration I get from my favorite lifestyle accounts–it would be cool to run one of my own.

What would your ideal life look like? Would it be one without the Gray, without the complicated family drama?

I wish the town was calmer. I wish Mom would listen to me more. And I wish Dad would come back. But I can’t do anything about that, now, can I?

I really fell in love with May during this book and I’m excited for more people to experience her POV!
