I’ve seen a huge influx in books that have something to do with birds. It’s sort of like the YA snake of flight. I thought it would be fun to list some of the bird books that I’ve loved or I’m really looking forward to, to share the bird love.
The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owens
I think this is one of the books I’ve seen the most variety of opinions of. Some people hate it, some people love it, and some people are indifferent. I’m one of the people who loves it. The magic system and world can be a little confusing, but Fie is so angry, Tavin is sarcastic and lovable, and Jas is kind of clueless but he’s trying his best. And despite being a bit confusing, the world is fantastic and so expansive. There’s lots of teeth magic and a broken sword. It’s super cool!
Descendant Of The Crane by Joan He
Is anybody surprised that this book is on this list? I adored Descendant Of The Crane so much. It’s one of the few books with political intrigue that didn’t bore me and that I actually liked. The plot is so twisty and I was constantly shocked. It’s just a really incredible book.
The Storm Crow by Kalyn Josephson
I really loved this one a whole lot too. It has incredible depression rep. It has such a cool world, with warring kingdoms. There’s a cat and a crow, who is basically a sky cat! There’s the sweetest guy and Thia was fierce and such a great character.
Serpent And Dove by Shelby Mahurin
A witchy book! The dove is more of a metaphor, but it’s in the title, so I’m including it haha. This was a fantastic enemies-to-lovers books. It takes fake dating to the next level. Lou and Reid have to fake a marriage. Lou is a witch and Reid is a witch hunter. A fantastic situation! Lou was feisty, slippery, and always looking for a fight. Reid was quiet and adorable. It was a really fantastic book.
Crown Of Feathers by Nicki Pau Preto
I actually haven’t read this one yet, but I really want. It’s also about fictional birds, phoenixes, but I’m including it anyway, because they are birds haha. A complicated sister story, complicated lies, and phoenix riders. It sounds amazing!
I’m actually surprised that I didn’t include any sequels in this list since I found enough books without them! There’s more bird books that I originally thought and I like talking about them, so maybe I’ll make another list. Or maybe even for a different animal? But please recommend me your bird books if you have them!
Thank you for reading!
