Top Ten Tuesday: Things That Make Me Pick Up A Book

Yay, I’m happy to be doing another Top Ten Tuesday post and it’s actually going to go up on the right day haha. I missed out on the last couple since I had other posts going up. Anyway, this prompt sounds really cool and I can’t wait for people to judge me for my answers.

The Cover

I know this is bad! I know I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. But, if I see a stunning cover at the bookstore, I will be inclined to pick it up and find out more about it. Plus, sometimes it reflects the story really well and makes reading it even better!

The Synopsis

This is kind of an obvious one haha. If a book sounds like something I would like, even vaguely, I’ll want to pick it up!

The Title

I kind of think of this one the same way I do about covers. It’s not make or break for me, but sometimes it does help. And if a title is all I have to on and I think it’s super awesome, I’ll want to find out more about it! Plus, if someone is talking about a book with a super cool title, I’ll want to look it up.

My Friend’s Recommendation

They have really good taste in books and if they are talking about one nonstop, I’ll want to give it a shot!

Blurbs

This isn’t a huge one for me. I’m sort of meh on blurbs in general. Though, if I’m trying to decide whether or not to try a book and I see one of my favorite authors blurbed it, it gives me more incentive to pick it up.

Hype

I do tend to follow hype a lot. I am trying to read books that fly under the radar more! My tastes usually tend to lean towards what is popular.

The Author

Since I’ve become more active in the bookish community, I’ve been able to interact with more authors! I personally think it’s awesome! And if I like an author’s content or I think they’re really nice I’ll definitely want to pick up their book!

My Mood

I’m a huge mood reader and I usually just follow that haha. I might really not want to weird a certain book one day and really want to read it another!

Rep

If a book is written by or features queer, disabled, or POC characters, I definitely, definitely want to read it. I’ve been able to figure out certain parts of my identity because of books and I love the growing diversity in YA.

 

And that’s about it! Not a whole lot goes into my decision expect if I want to give it a try! There are small things that can make a book look and sound better, but it really comes down to the story!
