Welcome to Colsten Can’t Wait, which is my version of Waiting On Wednesday! Every week, my cat and I pick out an upcoming book and highlight it! This week, we picked Aurora Rising.

Synopsis:

The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch… A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm. A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates. A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder. An alien warrior with anger management issues. A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering. And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this one. I think the ragtag space crew has been done a lot, but I’m always on board to see how somebody different can put their spin on it! Plus, everybody seems really excited for this one and the pull of the hype is contagious. It also sounds like it could be really good. (And the cover is gorgeous.) The crew seems like they are going to be the most sarcastic people to grace their galaxy, which I am defineitly looking forward too haha. And there’s alien characters, wars, cryo-sleep, and it sounds queer (? hopefully). All of that sounds really, really awesome. Plus, I’ve been wanting to read more sci-fi when I can and this sounds like it’s packed full of stuff that I would really enjoy. And I’ve heard that it has hot space elves in it, which is abousetly incredible. I can’t wait to see what I think of it.

Aurora Rising comes out May 7th! You can add it on Goodreads and pre-order a copy in the meantime!

Thank you for reading!
