I’ve been reading for a good long while. And my tastes have changed, which I think is a good thing! I think it’s interesting to look back on the books I’ve read a long, I’m talking years, time ago and think about if my opinions of them would change.
Divergent by Veronica Roth
I know for sure I would not like these books if I read them. Roth’s writing style just isn’t for me and I’m not the biggest fan of dystopians. Younger me played into whatever was popular big time. So I said I loved them and I read all three books. I did enjoy them, just not a lot. If I read them now, I’m not even sure I would get through the first book.
Angelfall by Susan Ee
I love this series. A lot, a lot. But it was supposed to be five books. The third and ultimately final book feels rushed because of it. Plus, I feel like this book would read really 2014-15 and I’ve changed so much since then. I’m sure I would still love, but I don’t think I would adore it as deeply as I do now. And I’m not sure if I would get through the third book.
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
I even hated this series when I was younger haha. But I read all three because I thought they would look pretty on my shelves. And they did! I don’t know if I would get through the first couple chapters now though and I would definitely have more to say about it now haha.
The 5th Wave by Rick Yancy
The 5th Wave was alright. The way the story was told honestly confused me a bit and I didn’t love the second book. I haven’t read the third one. I’m not sure if I would even get through the first book now since it can be convoluted at times and the storytelling is all over the place, which just isn’t for me.
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
This is another one that I followed the hype for. I don’t think I would like this one at all now. I honestly don’t remember much of what happened from all four books. I just know that it was decent then, but I don’t think the content would hold up now.
I’m probably going to make a part 2 of this since I really enjoyed making this and there are other books I’d like to talk about! And it’s fun to look at how much my tastes have changed.
Thank you for reading!
This is a very cool post! I think this goes to show it’s not always the book that might keep us from liking it, but our perspectives and the place we’re in at that moment in life.

Yes! It makes me wonder how I’ll think about the books I’m reading now, in the future.

Ooh this is such a clever post, and I can relate to it SO much. Divergent was one of my favorites back when I was 15ish, but I can’t imagine loving it as much now. Same thing with Angelfall and Hush Hush (I still can’t believe I finished the whole series lol). It’s definitely easy to get caught up in the hype! Great post❤️

Thanks! Hype can be a wonderful thing, but sometimes it’s easy to fall into it!

I’d love to see a Part 2, this is such a cool post! I’ve only read Divergent out of these and I doubt I’d like it quite so much.

Thank you so much! It’d be interested to reread Divergent to see what I’d think, but I don’t think I want to actually do that haha.

What a great idea for a post! I’ve been working on something similar because I’m trying to read through the books I already have on my shelf… most of which I purchased as a teenager with muuuuuch different reading tastes!

I keep wondering the same about 5th Wave! I read it a long time ago and I’m not sure I would have the same response now.

I think it’s an interesting premise and could be really good if done correctly. It just didn’t live up to what it could be for me.

Love this post idea! I might have to give it a go too 🙂 The only ones I have read out of your picks are Shiver and Angelfall. I read Angelfall recently and really liked it, but I read Shiver years ago and I reckon I would be the exact same as you!
