I’ve changed a lot throughout this year. From things in my personal life, to things in my writing life, to things in my reading life! I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how my opinions on reading/books has changed this year and how I differently I read now than in the beginning of the year.
Throughout the year, I have been exposed to so many different opinions from so many different people. I was active in the Twitter bookish community and I really threw myself into the blogging bookish community. I’ve been able to see and read things from so many different perspectives and I think I’ve gained so much from everything.
I’ve seen people love books I wouldn’t pick up by myself, but since I like that person, I’d give the book a shot. And I’d end up enjoying it! I love that I’m able to interact with so many different people with so many different tastes.
I think the biggest thing for me is that I’ve started branching out. If the synopsis didn’t sound like something I would like to read, I’d move on and forget about it. Now, I won’t be so harsh to judge. I’ve read some books that I’ve really loved that focus on subjects I would usually shy away from (shout out to Our Year Of Maybe by Rachel Lynn Solomon). I’ve decided that I’m going to try a bunch of books that I wouldn’t usually pick up. Because maybe I’ll love them! That’s a big thing for me and I should be interesting to see how it plays out.
I’ve also really come into my queerness this year. (I’m bi + question a lot of things haha) And now any book that I learn is queer jumps straight up my tbr. Wilder Girls, I thought it sounded cool and then I learned it was queer and I was super, super pumped to read it! Hot Dog Girl, hmmm sounds weird but maybe I’ll give it shot. I learned it’s a f/f romance and I was jumping for joy that I would be able to read it. I’m so, so grateful that I get to read books that I can see this part of myself in books.
I don’t have a lot of things that changed for me reading wise this year, but I do consider the things that did change pretty big. I’m looking forard to reading all types of books next year and branching out from what I usually read. And please feel free to give me recommendations of any sort! I’d love to know what your favorites are that you think everybody should read.
Thank you for reading!
