I tend to read firmly in the YA category, but I do like to venture into the world of adult books from time to time. I don’t see too big of a difference between the two other than the writing. I’m not quite sure how to explain it but writing in adult books seem… heavier for some reason? I dunno, the writing just seems vastly different to me. Anyway, there are a few adult books on my shelf, plus some not on my shelf, that I would like to get to at some point so I thought I’d round a few up!
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
I’ve actually started this one, but I put it down after 100ish pages maybe. This series is huge and so many people seem to love it. I actually have a friend who is completely obsessed with these books (hi Caro!). Since her love is so strong, it’s making me want to give Red Rising another shot. The premise sounds interesting and what I have read was pretty good!
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
My two friends, Mo and Angel, rave about this series. Plus, it’s even a TV show now! I actually have no idea what this one is about other than witches. But, I get a really good vibe from it, which is enough for me to give it a shot! Plus, WITCHES!
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff
This is another one with a lot of rave reviews. And another one I don’t know much about. I do know that Mia is vicious and awesome and the world is very bloody. That is more than enough to have me intrigued.
The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang
This is probably one of the top books I want to get to. It sounds really really good. And dark. Plus, so many people love this one. A war academy story with supposed dead gods and rare magic sounds amazing.
Circe by Madeline Miller
I was pronouncing this title wrong for the longest time haha. But I am captivated with Greek mythology of any kind and I am definitely interested in a story about Circe!
Since I don’t read these types of books that often, I tend to lean towards the super popular ones when I do. I think once I’ve expanded my horizons a bit, I’ll start picking up adult books that I don’t know much about! But I have a lot of good ones to get through though haha.
Thank you for reading!
I agree, the writing in adult books are often way heavier??? Idk what’s up with that. And I can’t wait to see your thoughts on all of these!

A lot of people talk about content defining adult books and I agree to some extent, but the writing is the major defining factor for me.

I definitely agree, especially as it seems like a lot of YA content is maturing!

It’s time for NA to rise from the ashes, completely better than it was before.

Circe is wonderful! Red Rising is on my list too, but I haven’t been able to convince myself to start another series.

Oh yeah, it’s hard for me get into a longer series sometimes too!
