Colsten Can’t Wait: The Devouring Gray by Christine Lynn Herman

Welcome to Colsten Can’t Wait, which is my version of Waiting On Wednesday! Every week me and my cat Colsten pick an upcoming book that we are super excited about and highlight it! This week, we picked The Devouring Gray!

Synopsis: On the edge of town a beast haunts the woods, trapped in the Gray, its bonds loosening… Uprooted from the city, Violet Saunders doesn’t have much hope of fitting in at her new school in Four Paths, a town almost buried in the woodlands of rural New York. The fact that she’s descended from one of the town’s founders doesn’t help much, either—her new neighbours treat her with distant respect, and something very like fear. When she meets Justin, May, Isaac, and Harper, all children of founder families, and sees the otherworldly destruction they can wreak, she starts to wonder if the townsfolk are right to be afraid. When bodies start to appear in the woods, the locals become downright hostile. Can the teenagers solve the mystery of Four Paths, and their own part in it, before another calamity strikes?

I wanted to wait on this one until the US cover was released, but I adore this picture of Colsten (he looks like a grumpy old man right?) and I wanted to pair it with I book I am through the roof for. And it has an ARC cover and a UK cover, so I’m saying that is good enough!

I’ve been excited for this one since the deal announcement! I am always up for a creepy woods book and since reading Uprooted and I’m EVEN MORE ready for a creepy woods book at any time. This book sounds like it’s going to be an amazing blend of family, friends, wood monsters, dark magic, and secrets. It will even have disabled and queer characters which has earned it a resounding HECK YEAH from me! The characters seem like they are going to flawed, achingly real, and loveable to the max. The world and everything it holds sounds so interesting and I cant wait to explore it and it’s characters and it’s woods. And there’s a CAT!

The Devouring Gray comes out April 2nd, 2019. You can add it on Goodreads and pre-order in the meantime!

Thank you for reading!
