Welcome to Colsten Can’t Wait, which is my version of Waiting on Wednesday! Every week my cat and I pick an upcoming book that we’re super excited for and highlight it! This week, we decided to pick This Splintered Silence by Kayla Olsen.
Synopsis: Lindley Hamilton has been the leader of the space station Lusca since every first-generation crew member on board, including her mother, the commander, were killed by a deadly virus. Lindley always assumed she’d captain the Lusca one day, but she never thought that day would come so soon. And she never thought it would be like this—struggling to survive every day, learning how to keep the Lusca running, figuring out how to communicate with Earth, making sure they don’t run out of food. When a member of the surviving second generation dies from symptoms that look just like the deadly virus, though, Lindley feels her world shrinking even smaller. The disease was supposed to be over; the second generation was supposed to be immune. But as more people die, Lindley must face the terrifying reality that either the virus has mutated or something worse is happening: one of their own is a killer.
I’ve been looking forward to this book since it was announced. I will jump on anything that is space related and I have heard amazing things about Kayla Olsen’s other book. It’s about a girl who’s mother was the commander of a space station until she was killed by a virus. Lindley ,the main character, was always certain that she would be the commander one day, but she never thought it would be so soon and it would be under such horrible circumstances. She struggles to learn how to keep everything running, keep contact with Earth so everyone can have enough food, and worrying about how the virus seems to be spreading and how their might be a killer on board. I sounds like an amazing mystery sci-fi, which is a mash up I don’t think I’ve ever read before. I’m looking forward to seeing how this one plays out and what I think of it!
This Splintered Silence comes out November 13th, 2018. You can add it on Goodreads and pre-order it in the meantime!
Thank you for reading!
